  • Adult Coloring Club is held EVERY 2nd Monday from  5 to 7 p.m. in the library meeting room. Coloring isn't just for kids, it can actually help adults combat stress!
  • Knit & Crochet Night is held EVERY 1st, 3rd and 5th Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the library meeting room. Knitters of all levels and ages are welcome! Please bring your own needles and yarn.
  • Teen Game Night is held for middle and high schoolers EVERY 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Bring your own or learn to play ours with others!


  • Monday Night Book Club meets every third Monday at 6 p.m. Book discussion, opinion sharing, refreshments, and lots of fun! It is open to young adult and up in age and new members are always welcome. Meets year-round. Please contact Mardia for any special dates and locations along with our reading list.
  • J Club (ages 7-12) meets every third Thursday at 6 p.m. in the meeting room from September through May. See Mary in the Children's Room to pick up a book! Meets September through May.


Children's Story Times

  • Tuesdays from 4:30-5:15 p.m. – Starting Jan. 23 – Stories, crafts, and special guests designed for kindergarten to 5th-grade students. Meets year-round.
  • Wednesdays from 11-11:30 a.m.  – Starting Jan. 31 – Stories, crafts, and special guests designed for preschool children ages 2-5. Meets year-round, except during a brief hiatus for the month of August.
  • Saturdays at 10 a.m. – Starting Jan. 27 – “Stories with Liza” – Stories and take-home activities designed for preschool children ages 2-5. Meets year-round.

Baby Story Times

  • Wednesday from 9:30-9:55 a.m. – Starting Feb. 7 – Baby songs, stories, giggles, and rhymes for children 2 years and under with their caregivers. Meets year-round.
  • Thursday from 9:30-9:55 a.m. – Starting Feb. 8 – Baby songs, stories, giggles, and rhymes for children 2 years and under with their caregivers. Meets year-round.

Code Club on Hiatus

Our Code Club is going on hiatus while we completely re-imagine the program. Stay tuned for updates about tech programing for kids.


NOTE: After Monday, Feb. 12, no more book donations will be accepted for the Spring 2018 book sale. The Friends of the Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library have already gotten so many wonderful donations that we're running out of space!

Best bargains in Town: a whole grocery bag of books for practically nothing!  Every spring and fall, the Friends of the Library non-profit group hosts a book sale at Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library to help support the Clayton Library.  Learn more about this great event and how your bargains will benefit your library!  The Friends of the Library holds general meetings at 4:00 p.m. on the 4th Thursday of January, July and October. All are welcome!

The Spring 2018 book sale will take place in a new location this year. Join us on Friday, April 27, Saturday, April 28, and Monday, April 30 in the Council Chambers at the Clayton Center!  The first day of the sale is your chance to grab a whole bag of your favorites for $25 per bag. On Saturdays, bags are $15. Finally, on Monday’s last-chance sale, a giant bag of books is just $10.
